General Manager’s Report
Darrell Ransdell (335-7869 ex. 1756)
Annual Golf Fees and Assessment – At the August monthly Board meeting, the annual golf fees were increased 5% for 2008. The POA will be sending letters to current annual members near year-end showing the rates and providing sign-up information. Also the Board passed a 5% increase in the annual (or monthly, depends how you pay) assessment. The monthly amount will be $98.77 effective January 1, 2008. The POA office can handle credit card or direct debit payment, but must have written authorization, which can be handled by talking with Kathy in our office.
Yard Waste – The area across the lane from the Golf Course Maintenance Building is for individual residents to dispose of leaves and limbs from their yards. There is a restriction in our Rules and Regulations against all burning within 600 yards of any structure in the village. The POA does not recommend any burning by residents due to the terrain and potential damage of a fire in our woods. Please take your leaves and tree trimmings to the designated area so maintenance can dispose of it by controlled burning. The area is only for burnable yard waste so take your trash bags with you for reuse.
Driveway Snow Removal – In past years, our maintenance personnel cleared driveways of snow for a fee. We can no longer offer this service due to the amount of roadways we must clear. Clearing the roads must come first for safety reasons and it simply takes too long for us to get to your driveway after the snowfall. This early notice is to allow you time to make other arrangements.

Have you ever heard the saying “I’ve never met a pumpkin I didn’t like”?
A Pumpkin’s most endearing quality is its staying power. A tomato won’t stand by you all winter long; it quickly degrades from perfection, but not the pumpkin and winter squash. These guys are faithful, so bring some pumpkins home this autumn and let them amuse you in a centerpiece or on the mantel– until you can’t resist cooking them. Please plan to participate in all the Fun October events.
August Event
Casino Night
The 2nd StoneBridge Casino Night held August 23 was another incredible event. We had fifty gamblers taking chances and having fun without investing real money. There were eighteen dealers and helpers teaching gamblers how to play the games so everyone could participate. I’ve said all of this before, but this event would have not been possible without wonderful volunteers and I want to thank All of you for your hard work. Special thanks to Bob Anderson for performing live during the event. Thanks to our photographer Patti Everett, we have a lot more pictures of you all playing… come see them in my office.
Texas Hold'em Tournament Finishers
1st man out of the tournament: Tony Grublesky - enjoy your pillow
1st place Texas Hold'em Tournament: Bob Bangert

September Event
Spirit of America Catamaran Cruise
The 2nd StoneBridge Catamaran Cruise held September 14th was great fun. The weather was a little cold, however, Jimmy Buffet was playing, Jell-O shots were passing and the passengers were laughing; the night was beautiful. I want to thank the 21 passengers for sailing and making the voyage a fun time.

This month we will be making No-Sew Fleece Blankets. Put away your needles and thread–this gorgeous fleece doesn’t require a single stitch! Wide fringe is cut, and then layers are tied together, making this the fastest blanket you’ll ever make. The fleece comes in various designs and can be purchased at fabric stores. These blankets are great for a quick cover up, on a car trip, or just watching TV. They also wash very well in the washing machine. Stop by the POA office to see examples.

Materials for Blankets
You will need to purchase coordinating printed fleece at a fabric store. You can choose a print for one side and a solid color fabric for the other side or choose the same print for both sides. Please stop by the POA office for examples.

Golf Course Superintendent
Jim Pyle (417.339.2130)
As many of you have probably noticed this last week, we have been busy starting to overseed the golf course with cool season turf grasses. This is in my opinion the best and only time to do this. Many will try in the spring, but for the best success rate fall is best. A good starter fertilizer is suggested, but not mandatory, and a heavy fertilization (one-to-two lbs. per thousand of actual Nitrogen) to follow later in the fall and winter.
Another good project around the course and your home is to start preparing your flower beds for the spring. I know there are still a lot of pretty things going on in the garden, but bulb planting is right around the corner and after the first frost you can seed any wild flowers that you might want for next spring.
As fall approaches, it has always seemed to me that this is the best time of the year to play golf so get out and enjoy the weather and your great golf course.

Rules
Here are some examples of permitted actions in water hazards:
Steve, John and David arrive at the first teeing ground for their weekly stroke-play competition. The opening hole has a water hazard marked with yellow lines and stakes crossing the fairway approximately 230 yards from the teeing ground. There is also a lateral water hazard marked with red lines and stakes to the left of the fairway.
Steve's drive comes to rest on the bridge which crosses the water hazard. John's drive comes to rest against one of the yellow hazards stakes on the line defining the water hazard, while David hooks his drive into the lateral water hazard to the left of the fairway.
Since John's ball is touching the stake and the stake is on the hazard line, his ball is in the hazard. John removes the stake, a movable obstruction, and his ball moves. Since the movement of the ball was directly attributable to the removal of the stake, John must replace the ball under Rule 24-1a without penalty. After replacing his ball, John observes that the area immediately behind the ball is outside the hazard.
Therefore, John is permitted to ground his club behind the ball, since the club will not be touching ground within the hazard as prohibited by Rule 13-4b.
As Steve approaches his ball on the bridge, he realizes that since the margin of the hazard extends vertically upwards, the bridge is in the hazard and, therefore, his ball is in the hazard. He elects to play the ball as it lies from its position on the bridge. As the bridge is an obstruction, Steve may ground his club on the obstruction as permitted by the Note to Rule 13-4 and Decision 13-4/30.
David believes that his ball may be covered by loose impediments in the lateral water hazard. Rule 12-1 allows him to use a club to probe for his ball while searching for it. After removing some loose impediments with his club, he observes his ball lying in tall grass in a dry portion of the hazard. He must re-cover the ball with the loose impediment, so that only part of the ball is visible. Prior to making his stroke, David touches the tops of the tall grass with some practice swings and at address as permitted by the Note to Rule 13-4. He then proceeds to hit the ball approximately 75 yards to the middle of the fairway.

October is here and the hours of daylight and warm weather are becoming limited. The Ladies Invitational, The Men’s Member Guest and The Julian were all fun and successful events. Men’s League play and LLGA play is now at 9:00 in the morning. They will both run through October. On October 13th and 14th, we are holding the “Last Chance” couples golf scramble. This event is open to the public and a reduced entry fee is offered to annual dues paying members of LedgeStone C.C. To sign up for these events, please call the Pro Shop at 417.335.8187.
With Christmas rapidly approaching, now is the time to think about spending any golf shop credit you may have acquired this year. Remember it expires on December 31st. You may also be looking to sell some of those clubs collecting dust in your garage. For those of you who are interested, I am selling used golf equipment on eBay. My only charge is the listing fee and 15% of the selling price. I don’t make money if you don’t make money and eBay is a great way to get rid of your used equipment.
Thank you,
Bill Hasler
Golf Committee's Report – Larry Ewing (417.338.8694)
The LedgeStone Golf Course "Rules and Regulation" booklet has been revised and is ready for republication. The new booklet will be distributed to members with next year’s Annual Golf Fee bill.
Starting September 17th, the golf course maintenance staff switched to fall and winter work hours. Due to the later start time, the earliest anyone will be able to tee off is 7:30 AM.
The Golf Committee is developing a golf course improvement projects list. A cost estimate will be provided for each project and this list will be prioritized. This list will be updated periodically and will be used to keep the Board advised. It will also be used to determine the order in which projects will be completed when funds are available.
The maintenance staff has worked hard all summer to keep our greens playable after the freeze damage experienced this spring. The final step in this process, the overseeding of the greens, with a different and hardier grass, has recently been completed. The cooler weather has already improved the healing process and once the new grass comes in, we will once again have the excellent greens we are accustomed to.
Due to the break-in this summer, the cart barn and the bag storage areas have been made more secure. Also to improve security, this area has been designated for employees only. Please help make it easy for our staff to enforce this by staying out of that area.

Friday, September 7 - The LLGA Invitational - "Diamond in the Rough" with a field of 112 women! Shirley Douglas, Vice-President, was in charge and what a day! RAIN, rain, and more rain! What to do??? We basically waited an extra forty-five minutes, enjoying breakfast, buying raffle tickets, etc., and then Bill sent us out anyway! Red flag, no less! When the rain finally did clear up, the sun baked us! Nevertheless, we all completed the 18, turned in our scores and went upstairs to enjoy a wonderful buffet prepared by Bob Nicol and his staff.
Winners were announced, included a few LedgeStone Ladies: Jane Julian and her partner Rene Buzicky won the Championship Flight with a 69! Gae Redford and her sister Linda Bettin were third with a 70, after losing 2nd by scorecard comparison. In the "C" Flight, Shirley Douglas and Patty Lund were winners with an 85! Congratulations! Many door prizes and raffle prizes were awarded, including tickets to Silver Dollar City, 4 rounds at LedgeStone, and memberships to the new RecPlex and SouthWest Fitness Center.
Many thanks go to several of the 9'ers who were invaluable help in all ways! They assisted at breakfast, goodies at the turn, setting up the prizes, taking team pictures, and more! Our event would not be successful without their help and we appreciate it! Thanks, ladies!
Also invaluable to us are the men from the LedgeStone Men's Golf Ass'n. who assisted us throughout the day. They helped with golf bags, and were spotters around the course. What a rainy, ugly day to sit by themselves watching for balls, but they did it, and we are very grateful for all their help.
Congratulations to Shirley Douglas, Chair of the event, and her committee, who worked long and hard to put this all together. Of course, thanks go to Bill Hasler, Pro, and his staff; Bob and Renee Nicol and their staff in the restaurant; Jim Pyle, Course Superintendent, and his grounds crew, for helping us make this event a success! Thanks to you all!
